- In 1940, Amon Carter successfully aided in having a Consolidated Aircraft plant located in Fort Worth. Consolidated Aircraft became Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft or Convair in 1943. General Dynamics purchased a majority interest of Convair in 1953 and then sold its production of jet fighters in Fort Worth to Lockheed, which it remains today.
