- Dec. 9, 1938 Mr. Amon Carter. Fort worth Texas. Dear Mr. Carter. I wish it were possible to express to you my very deep appreciation for your interest in my son David and for your many courtesies on this recent trip - words seem inadequate but please know your part in making it possible for me to be aguest on the trip gave me the most glorious experience of my life. There is no joy commensurate to a mother's joy in feeling a rightful pride in her children and when my David accepted the Heisman trophy expressing himself as realizing its significance I felt a deep joy and over whelming pride. My hope is that these honors and adulations that David is receiving will serve as a background to a useful and worth while life. I believe they will and that you and all the others who are interested in him will feel with pride that he was the recipient of the Heisman Trophy of 1938.
