Description
French No Africa November 14, 1943 Dear Mr. Carter, Have been wanting to write to you for quite some time, but always, something intervened. You may recall that almost a year ago this time you spoke to a nurse via phone in London. Well, it was I. Yes, a pal of Amon's. Was very glad to have seen Amon that Thanksgiving day, eve tho it was but for two hours. Talked much in that short time. We were very good pals back in the states. Had much fun to-gether. My letters written to him last January & February were returned. Of course I know the reason why. #2 Have been fortunate in meeting Lt. Gabe Anderson (You no doubt know him for he was Amon's buddie) also a very fine pal and he gave me all the latest news to date i.e. after the Tunisian campaign, on or about June. Has made matters that much easier knowing that our pals are here & hoping always of running into them somewhere, somehow. To date, have been most fortunate - Have met many of them. Have been anxious to know how Amon is faring & if & when you've heard from him last. Please send him my regards and tell him his Yankee pal has not forgotten him. (over) #3 Am fine and well so far and in spite of several mishaps all has turned out okay. Would really appreciate hearing from you, Mr. Carter. Amon has told me much about his family, so I feel as if I do know you all. (Amon) was really proud of you. Talked about you a great deal. We've all made an agreement back in the states that should we lose contact with each other, we'd keep informed through each others families. Here's wishing you a "Merry Holiday Season," Mr. Carter (the best under the present circumstances). Sincerely Helen C. Baniak 2nd Lt. A.N.C. P.S. Should the Andersons be interested you can tell them that Gabe looked fine as ever. Was surprised to see no change in him.
