Description
Waco Texas. Feb. 8th 1944 Dear Mr. Carter: - I have delayed writing you for a week, thinking and hoping I would have a letter from Col. Barron, but not a word have I heard. Mr and Mrs R.H. Torrence did have a letter yesterday from the War Dept., but no detailed information other that verifying 2 Capt. Torrence's death. Still no date of his death. I was in Austin over Saturday nad Sunday; saw Mrs. Charles Jones (but he is called Hal) - He is in Camp 64- she is quite worried, for his last letter to her was dated Nov. 14th. I told her about our visit and it helped her to know you were 3 so interested in our loved ones in Oflag 64. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed talking with you and I am sure our men over there realize you are the best friend they have in the United States. From the many good things I have heard about your son, he is Truly deserving of the fine and devoted father that 4. you are. I will let you know at once, should I hear from Col. Barron and I sincerely hope you will hear from Lt. Carter very, very soon, and will you let me know. Thanking you kindly, I am sincerely, Mrs Gaines J. Barron 3200 Ethel Ave Waco, Texas.
