Description
Schick Gen. Hosp. Clinton, Iowa 16 Oct. 44 Dear Mr. Carter: I have just recently returned from Germany (Oflag 64) where your son is a P.O.W. I was well aquainted with your son, Amon Jr., & when I left Oflag 64 on the 36th of July he was well & in good health. I understand you have talked with Larry allen, so you know pretty well the conditions there. With the Red Cross food parcel every wk. the diet there is quite adequate but it gets very monotonous. The Red Cross is also furnishing adequate clothing. The Y.M.C.A. is doing a wonderful job of furnishing the P.O.W. with books, athletic equipment, music & musical instruments. I feel that in a few months you can look forward to having your son home safe & in good health. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have that are not restricted by the War Dept. Yours truly, Francis D. Burdick Capt. M.C.
