- Description
- 8402. 89 Ave Woodhaven 21 NY Mr. A.G. Carter Ft. Worth, Texas My dear Mr Carter. I understand your son Amon Jr. is at Oflag 64 with my son 1st Lt Bill Burghardt, the Ski Coach of U. of Montana & Mt. Rainier. Did your newspaper by any chance print the "SPORTS TRAIL" by WHITNEY MARTIN of Associated Press on April 17. 1944 on "The Sports Parade"by Jack Cuddy of United Press on Mar. 25. 1944? If so, could I purchase 3 or 4 back copies? If not, do you know which nearby newspapers did print either or both? I'm very anxious to obtain a copy as it contains quite a bit about my lad who was appointed Sports Officer of Oflag 64 Germany. It also contains mention of Stud Beasley (Texas Christian Univ.) He's (Bill) one of the characters in the book "Road to Tunis" by David Rame, a factual story of the African Campaign. The book was dedicated to Bill's C.C. 701 Tank Destroyer Bill_ known also as "Montana Bill" is also a well known Dude Rancher in the northwest. When next you write Junior, would you like to tell him we've corresponded. Here in NY I've received mail from all over USA because of news items about my lad on the battlefield, sports, and radio broadcasts. He's typical newspaper feature writer "meat" and many have written his Horatio Alger-like life story. Will you let me hear from you & tell me something about Junior, too? Sincerely W.H. Burghardt
