Description
8402_ 89 Ave Woodhaven 21 NY May 3, 1945 Mr. Amon G. Carter Ft. Worth Texas My dear Mr. Carter since your letter of March 27th I have experienced the pleasure of having my son (1st Lt. Wm. C. Burghardt) restored to me from Oflag 64. He knows your son was not among the escapees and has asked me to tell you he hopes by now you have heard from Amon Jr and from John Jones that they may be safe & well, homeward bound and back home before long. Amon, John & Bill knew each other at 64 and bill would be very interested in learning their whereabouts and status quo. Did Senator Herring's lag get away? Trusting the news is all good, all here remain, sincerely W.H. Burghardt (see over) P.S. Did your paper by any chance carry the "A.P." Whit Martin's story about Bill on or about Apr. 20. 45? If so, I'd like to obtain a copy.
