- Description
- Bowie March 12. 1943. Dear Amon, Such is Life - was very sorry to hear of your son being reported missing & hope & pray he is yet well & safe some where. Kown you are proud of this son & will always be glad to (illegible) to see him. As one grows older we appreciate & depend on our children for comfort, help & even advice- March 12, 1900 at 8 o'clock Geo & I were married & to night as I sit alone in this comfortable home with my pleasant memories of the past, seems I miss Geo more & more - am glad he does not have to go through this terrible war. Seba & her four little girls live with me from Monday morning till after school Friday & they have just gone off to their ranch home leaving me to my memories - which are pleasant ones. Just signed a Birth certificate for on of George Mc(illegible) sons who is in San Antonio. Had a nice letter from Pearl Singleterry yesterday she lives at Grimes Okla. & has two sons in the Services- lives on a ranch. Last June while on the way to visit Walter & Daisy Slaughter at Ft Scott Kansas - we stopped to visit with Minta Mc(illegible) in Okla City - Minta is still a Business Woman. Walter Slaughter was being treated in Dr. Claude Younger Hospital in Ft Scott. Perhaps you know that Mrs. Long is in the Hospital here. She is a remarkable woman- been by herself. Recently the Baptist Church here burned_ the third building I can remember to have burned on this lot. Give my love to Bertice, I hear from her occasionally as Nell & Effie pass by- know she made a wonderful woman. Wish you may hear pleasant news of the son soon. Sincerely Mimmi Slaughter P.S. since I did not mail this will add that on Sun. Night as Walter Black & wife Daisy were returning from Fourthing - the car went off a bridge, turned over killing Daisy & Walter is here in the Hospital-
