Description
Monday A.M. Dear Mr. Carter: I'm sorry to have caused you additional concern- for when I talked to you I didn't have Sidney's letter right with me at the phone, and so any hesitancy in my speech was due only to trying to say it- for I wasn't reading his letter at the time. Sidney's letter was written on that very small message paper_ was a short note. He said, "Certainly feel badly about Amon, Jr. but am hoping for the best. Think he is a prisoner. Keep in touch with his dad & let me know what he hears." "Charlie Summerall was sent home yesterday- pays to be well connected. I'm ready now." "Had my hand bandaged today, it's O.K.- just a scratch & healing nicely"_ & later in the not he added- "Had someone mail my Purple Heart medal & lapel pin. Let me know when you get it." So- maybe the "scratch" on his hand entitled him to that. I've been very tired lately, too - just running on nerves, and since your call last Thursday and worrying about Sidney, too. It's just too much. However, we take what we must. The best way we ca- and hope and pray for everything to com out all right soon. I know words are cheap- and many are meaningless- people mean well, and they can't really understand. Only you and I know the heartache, the torn feeling, but I do know- I feel it- that Amon, Jr. will be all right - our boys will make a real effort to release him. God is good. My thoughts are with you always. We must be brave for the sake of our boys. Lovingly, Jane
