Description
Monday nite- Dear Amon: It just isn't right for me to call you that, but since you asked me to, perhaps I should. Knowing you only a short time, I feel as though I'd known you always and you've become so dear to me. We have mutual interests and understand each other. Today I received the address of Lt. Col. Summerall -2- from Mrs. Deakins, and so I wrote him immediately. Do hope he gets it and will reply. No further news but now they're busily engaged againe, and with Patton at the head. I'm confident that our goal will be reached very soon. The results of all this will take a long time to become known and I'm hoping with you and praying that Amon, Jr. is in the vicinity and can escape his captors. A letter from Major Lee (a San Antonian who is Eisenhower's -3- aide) today stated he'd seen Sidney at Sidi Bougidand he was fine. That was way back in February, tho. We must have faith that everything will be well. I really do believe that, too. how is Ruth. It must be difficult for her to try to study and do good work with additional worries. My thought are ever with you, and I'm so sorry I can't be with you in person and help you throught hese troubled days. I'm anxious about you - please let me hear from you or from Mrs. Deakins - just a note. You're both very busy; I realize that. Take care of yourself for Amon Jr.'s sake. I know he's all right - he's a man; he'd not be shaken- he's a good boy and with tact he'll get along fine. God is good. Lovingly, Jame
