Description
Wednesday Dear Mr. Carter Dad has written me the War Department has informed you Amon Jr. is separated from his unit and unreported. When I read this and thought it over, and knowing what I do about you and him, I know he is in there up and fighting wherever he is, and I wish I was right there with him. To put my shoulders up next to real soldiers up next to real soldiers like Amon Jr. and his bunch is a priviledge that I hope to enjoy someday soon. I've kept some of the thoughts you gave me during my pleasant visit in your office, particularly about those people who aren't carrying their share of the load, and I will admit I often feel pretty proud that I'm not in that class of "Americans." Its boys like Amon Jr. and Webb Jr. and their new friends who have made our country the greatest and finest. I have been well and working hard here, with a rifle battalion, and have a fine group of officers for associates. Trusting I may hear from you of any reports on Amon Jr.'s location and whereabouts. With sincerest regards, Dick Walker
