- 219 Wells Street Tyler, Texas March 28, 1943 Mr. Amon g. Carter Fort Worth, Texas Dear Mr. Carter: After reading the annoncement in the newspaper that your son is missing in action. I felt that I should like to extend my sympathy to you. I have a son, but as far as I know he is still all right. I thank God for each day he is living. If he must go, I ask God to give me the strength to bear it, and to help me to so live that I may be able to meet him in a better world. God is our only hope in time like these. Mr. Carter, you have been a most successful businessman and a man who has don so much good in your country. No doubt you saw that he had all the money he needed for any undertaking as long as he lived. I have a very meager income and my sone had a struggle to go through high school and college. There were times when I did not know how we could continue. But with all this I would not trade places with you. In other words money is not all in this life. If I had had money, I am sure I could not haev used it for as much good as you have. I pray that God may help you to bear this great loss, and that you may put your trust in God for your salvation and a hhope to see your son in a better world. In sympathy, a mother of a son.
