Description
Dear Mr. Carter: Myron Blaylock has just told me that Amon, Junior, has been reported "Missing in Action". He has also told me of the many fine and patriotic things that you, yourself, have been doing. Your son, Amon, and my son, Joel, were in the University together. Joel, a captain of infantry, is now overseas in the same area as was Amon. Another son of mine is in the Air Force, also overseas. Still another, the last one, is in training with the Marines. I, myself, have just returned from nearly a year in the South Pacific. I leave soon for an assignment in another part of the world. I know something of how you must feel. You and I have never been close friends. Our social and political beliefs have not been the same. But I ahve always admired your fighting spirit and your amazing ability to get things done. Always I would have liked to have had you "on my side." We are very definitely together now in the most important thing either of us has ever had to do with. In your sorrow I am sad, and, while it is probably not important to you, I want you to know it. Sincerely Lawrence Wesbrook. Col., A. U.S. March 30, 1943
