- Description
- Grenada Miss Apr. 15. 1943. Dear Amon, In this mornings Memphis Commercial Appeal we see where your son who has been Missing since Feb. has been found as a prisinor of war in Germany. Edgar and I want to express with your numerous loyal friends our deepest feelings with you and Mrs Carter. I'm sure your anxiety has been great and under any circumstances a relief to know he is alive War is cruel from any angle and we who cannot take actual part suffer most we have at least this one comfort, God is good and on our side so all will be well in the end for those who trust him. Our boy (Rosa's son) is at Beaurigard La, we are hoping he wont be in actual combat or taken across even, he is all we have and while we are not being selfish over him, we would like to keep him if we can. He is married, has a lovely wife and twin babies, a little boy and girl, his wife was Fern Pendergrast of New Orleans. We do not get much news form Texas since Mattie's death and feel real home sick at times. If you feel like writing us we will be so glad to hear more about your nice little boy; that is what he will always be to you and his mother. our boy (Henry Ray Jr) is six foot three but still baby to us. With every sincere wish that all will be well and your son will soon be returned to you I am Your friend Loula Brown Underwood.
