- April 15, 1943. Dear Mr. Carter: I saw the announcement today that your son, Lt. Amon Carter Jr., though a prisoner of war, is safe and presumably unharmed. For this I should like to add my felicitations to those of your many friends. The growing armed might of the country together with that of our Allies will ultimately rescue him and others whom the fortune of this war have temporarily placed in the Axis prison camps.
