Description
April 5, 1944: Dear Katrine, Received you latest letter of Dec 22. Today have had Feb 27th from Dad and March 6 from Mother. It is best to use 30c Airmail. I hope you don't pay attention to this walk of writing only once a week. That's not fair because mail is all we have to look forward to. We are still soldiers and just because we are prisoners we shouldn't be forgotten. The Germans are very good about censoring our mail. The November parcel was swell, please thank Mr. Harper for the pipes. Forget the shorts in the May parcel. In each parcel please put 2 cans of Nescafe and cheese. Leave it in the can because they come through the censors ok. Have had 5 book parcels and 2 more Canadian parcels. Please make copies of all Dad's letters so I can see them when I get home. Tell Dad that Col. Drake on March 23 wrote the Adv. General through the Swiss about the mail. I suggest he read it. enjoyed the letter about Sonny Neeley. Sure wish I was in his place because I would really change things around here. I would stop everything and I have good reasons. Can you send me some of the snaps I sent back from Africa? Did any of my letters with money in them get home? Oh yes, has a miss (lt) Baniak written? Sure wish I knew her address. Please thank the following for the letters: Gen Gignilliat, Mrs. Caldwell, Mr. JK Thompson, Aunt Olive, Mr. & Mrs. Collins, Mildred, Mr. Plangman, Mrs. Burch hill, and Flem Hall. I am now gaining back a lot of the weight I lost. We are now waiting for spring so we can get some exercise. There are about 100 new officers due Today, which will make nearly 500 here. There is also a put Franklin her from F. Worth. He works in the hospital. Hope that you and Karl are fine. Give everyone in the office my regards. The parcels are so well packed they always arrive intact. Haven't had letter later than Oct 31 from Jean . Are they being returned? Will close now. Give my love to everyone Love, Amon Jr
