Description
April 9, 1944: Dearest Mother, Have had 89 of your letts, three of them written in March. The 30c Airmail is best. Today is Easter and we just finished a swell meal and for once I am full. We didn't eat last night's potatoes and saved them for tonight so we could have mashed potatoes. Spring is here and it is really a pretty day. The last 4 months have been pretty cold and I spent most of the time in bed to keep warm, but now that it is warmer I plan on studying more, especially Spanish. I have given up Russian and know enough German to carry on a good conversation. Really enjoyed that picture of our and Arthur. Have seen a lot of John's friends. Holmes Penn is fine. Capt. Rossbach who arrived in November wants you to tell his wife, Mrs. Richard Rossbach, 820 5th Ave, to write as often and like you do. He has had only 3letters from her, very shorts. He knows Pirnie also. Is it possible to send cigars instead of cigarettes from Buffalo. They are the most scarce thing in camp. I play 3 rubbers of bridge every night and the Blackwood system for slams works swell. We play for cigarettes since we have no money. Had my first letter from Jean in 4 months yesterday. Was really shocked to hear about Phyllis last week. Am sure it was hard on Ruth, but Roby is the one I am sorry for. Thank Aunt Mimi for her letter. How about some pictures of her models? I now weigh about 153 and all of us are fine and waiting for one thing. Am sure we will be home by March or April next year. Oh Yes, Does Pirnie live on 91st Street still? Send me his address. You still have some funny ideas about our life here but I will have to wait to straighten you out. Don't put too much into this "Red Cross Bulletin" We tried to make a raisin pie two days ago but it didn't come out good since we can get any flour. Anything tastes good here though. Give my love to everyone Love Amon Jr.
