- December 25, 1944: Dear Dad, This makes my second Christmas here now, but it has been a lot better than the last one. Last year, we couldn't even see any prospect of getting home this year, but now we all believe it will be over next August. Our group of 8 officers ad saved up a lot of food from out private parcels. So we have been eating swell the last two days. I am the official pastry cook in our cubicle and made some swell biscuits and four pies. They all turned out swell and we are having the pies at 10 o clock tonight. I made each crust out of 7 cookies, cold water, and margarine. The Red Cross Xmas Parcel. Was really swell and I had turkey for the first time in 2 years. This parcel was issued in lieu of the regular parcel. We are receiving one parcel every 2 weeks now, until some more arrive. We had about 10 different church services today since we have so many officers. We have 10 or 11 Chaplains in camp. Seventeen new officers arrived last night, Xmas Eve. Two are from Texas, Lt Roy Comstock, McAllen, and Lt Edward Hendrickson, Marfa. All the boys from Ft. Worth are fine, in face we are all fine. I plan on being home for next birthday.
