Description
May 26, 1943 Dear MR. Carter, You probably don't remember, but I met you in the hospital when Amon had his appendectomy. He wrote me in the latter part of January and asked for me to write him. Unfortunately, it was March before I wrote the letter, and the day after it was written him it was announced he was missing. Realizing it would probably be futile to mail the letter then, I decided to wait for news of him and just hope my feeling that he was still alive was correct. An now that he is a prisoner he is comparatively safe for a while. I'm glad he isn't a Japanese prisoner. I should like to write him if there's any possibility of his receiving mail I know you know how to address mail so he will get it,, and I should appreciate it immediately if you would advise me how to write him. I was deeply concerned over his being reported missing, but know somehow that he was alive. I always admired Amon so much for his high principles and ideals and it was no secret that he wanted to emulate you. I never saw him Ariak as smoke; I know he told me that he never did because you did want him to. I saw is the paper that had heard from him recently and know that must have done wonders to relieve your anxiety. I hope it won't be too much trouble to write letting me know how to address mail to him, and I should appreciate you giving me any pointers. Sincerely yours. Susan Diggle
