Description
Dear Mr. Carter, In a recent issue of the Fort Worth Star Telegram, I noticed an article stating you have received word that your son, Lt. Amon Carter Jr. who has been missing in action since Feb. 14th in N. Africa, has been located and is capitve of the Germans and now is in Germany. I join with you in deepest regret that he is in such position but stiill it must be some relief to know that he is alive and we can live in hope os his return home someday. Nonw I have a brother whose add was: PFC: Walter C. Evans, 38064794, Co. D. 81st Armord Recon Br. APO 251 CO Postmaster New York City, NY and who has been missing in action since Feb. 20th. 1943 in North Africa of whom it seems possible may have been in the same division oas you son. I am wondering if you could give me any information as how to I can obtain any direct knowledge of whether or not my brother is at the same place as your son. He was inducted in the army in Feb. 1942 at Ft. SIll, OK. and was sent to Ft. Knox, KY. Where he remained only about 3 months and was sent to N. Ireland landing there about May 20, 1942. He stayed there until sometime in Oct. or Nov. then was sent to England and from there to North Africa in Dec. 1942. I would be very thankful and would appreciate to the utmost extent any information given me about same. I could not receive any direct words from him but if I could find out if he is still alive and know how and where to write him it would do him worlds of good to hear from home. I am enclosing a self addressed envelope with hopes of a reply soon. Thanking you and wishing you and yours worlds of good luck for a speedy and safe return of your son. Yours, truly, Mrs. E.L Thompson
