- Tunsia, N. Africa April 23, 1943 Dear Mr. Carter, Been wanteing to write you for a log time but been hoping I'd hear something definite about Amon, Jr. I don't know a thing but havve heard you had been notified he is a prisoner of war. Whether or not that is a rumor I can't tell. He was with our comat comman on Feb. 12 and I can't help but feel most of those missinng are prisoners. One by one we're hearing from them and I certainly hope he's ok. As you probably know Lt. Col Somerall is now back in the tates and if you haven't seen him he can be contacted at Ft. Knox. All in all we're doing ok. Our divison has been criticized by oursiders but I'm putting it midly where I say we were outnumbers at least 3 to 1 at that time. Ou officers and men really were a victim of circumstances and fought like heroes. Everone in the battalion spoke highly of Amon, Jr. and his handling of his assignments.Once again let me thank you for the many courtesies and kindnesses you have shown me and my wife. She saw our names on the men in the Star Telegram. Can't say what is in the sotre for us after this campaign but whatever it is I thik we can handle it. Sincerely yours, Rallie E. Ekings
