- My Dear Mr. Carter 7/23/1944 I , with several other Texas boys, arrived here in mid-February. Immediately Amon asked for each name and address saying he would send them to you and possible expedite our first mail dilvers as POW's. Now all oif us have received both letters and parcels of food, clothing, and tobacco. Each of the families has described the unsolicited aid you have given them in details as to our where abouts and mail instructions. It has enabled to hear from home weeks earlier and I am sure it served to relieve much anxiety there. We are all grateful beyond words to you, Mr. Carter, for all of your assistance and kindess. Each sends his greetings and best wishes. I see Amon daily and talk with him often. He is kept pretty busy ata camp job, and all the while doingt us a great service. ALl here are well and eagerly await a speedy reunion. Thanking you again for all, I remain a lonesome longhorn away from home. Capt. Eben C. Bergman.
