Description
Feb. 1st 1945 - Dear Mr. Carter: We feel the too share the anxiety that is yours concerning Oflag 64 and are daily hopeful of definite information. Read in you paper that the Camp supposedly was moved Jan. 10 and 12th to Sagen, Germany and dare to hope it is for the best for welfare of our boys. Our last mails from Roy was written Dec 13th fro m Oflag 64 and received in Jan 13th wasn't to the day! Shortest time in wihch we have ever heard. He mentioned having received their Red Cross packages for Christmas and how glad they were - I read in Cosmopolitan the Article by Lary Allen discussing Red Cross packages to the captured. Realizing your ability to receive news, we anxiously send you jpaper, hopeful of firsthand informative In several of your publications there have been items of interest concerning captures at Oflag 64, which have meant much to the hope of us who have sons there too. However, Roy J. Chappell Jr. is from Caufman, Texas, not from Grand Prarie. He has never been in Grand Prarie! Caufman is our house too, we receive mail there but Grand Prarie is temporarily Mr. Chappel's and my place of address. WIth continued hopethat soon we shall team up our boy s, perhaps liberations and speedy return we are. Sincerely yours, Mr. and Mrs. Roy J. Chappell 1321 W. Oak Street Grand Prarie Texas
