- Description
- March 20, 1943 Dear Mother & Dad, This is the first chance I have had to write since I have been in Germany. I am in fine health and am in an officer's camp for American and British officers. I was captured Feb 23 in Tunisia after hiding 9 days behind the German lines and would have gotten back to our lines if the Arabs hadn't knocked me unconscious and turned me over to the Germans. The Arabs stole my pistol, both cameras, and took all my clothes off of me and I am now wearing a British uniform. After flying from Africa to Italy, we came to Germany by train. Lt. George Beazley from Ennis and Lt. Ed Battle from Waxahachie are with me also. The Germans treat us fine although we are a little crowded. Please see the Red Cross about what you can send me. I need cigars, a pipe, chocolate bars, Nestles condensed cream, sugar, toothpaste, Boy Scout Knife, Gillette Razor and blades, Towels, 4 Handkerchiefs, and underclothes. Send cigars and food as often as possible. My address is on the front and there is no limit to letters we can receive. We can write 3letters a month and 4 cards. Give Jean my love, also Ruth and Katrine, and tell everyone hello for me. Don't forget the cigars, chocolate candy, and food. Tell everyone to write me also. Don't worry because I am fine. All my love, Amon, Jr.
