- Description
- April 15, 1943, Dear Folks, Have been in hospital 9 days with jaundice but am feeling better. Please thank Beatrice for her box, which I got Feb 10. Katrine & Carl for theirs & Mary Habel, 22 Miami Road, Pontise for money belt. British and Australian officers all want to visit States so send me some railroad maps, information and rates, especially a lot about Texas and Fort Worth, N.Y., Louisiana, Calif, and West. Also see if you can send me air mattress in clothing parcel with pajamas, shorts, socks, green gabardine army shirt, fruit bars and artillery insignia, also my hats if they are sent home from Africa. Need pocketbook too. In food line can use meats, mixed fruits, chili, vegetables, powdered eggs, crackers, catsup, spreads, strawberry jam, peanut butter, powdered milk, sausage, and cheese. I hate to ask for so much but we need it because of our diet. When you write me stamped envelop and typewriter because they are censored quicker. We can receive all the letters and packages you can send. Send one box of cigars a week, Robert Burns, Travis Club, Rotan, El Trellis, just rotate them each week. If anyone writes about me give them my address and tell them to write me although I won't be able to write them often. Also have them send me their snapshot. Send me all your pictures plus air photo of house. Don't worry because I am fine although life behind wire isn't too much fun. I did my best in Africa and after 9 days behind German lines the Arabs caught me and stripped me of everything. Maybe you can collect the insurance on my cameras which the Arabs stole. Give Ruth, Katrine & Carl, Beatrice my love. Also Mabel, Stanley, Bill, and everyone. Write and tell me all the news often. Find how I pay my income tax. Can't tell you how much I miss you, and home. Try and write about every day although I can't Send me newspaper clippings if possible. All my love, Amon, Jr.
