- Description
- May 5, 1943 Dear Mother & Dad, I am feeling fine now and have completely recovered from my stay in the hospital with jaundice. It's been over 3 months since I have heard from you but we expect some mail in in another month. Here is the best way to address my mail. Lt. Amon G Carter Jr. Get. Nor. 1595 Oflag IX AZ, Germany. We don't do very much here except eat 2 meals a day and then spend the rest reading and playing cards. We get paid 72 marks a month but can't spend it also I usually lose mine 2 times a week playing roulette. I still hate to think of a being a prisoner after having a only been on the front 3 weeks but it's too late to think of it now. Did you receive all of the films I sent home? You had letter send me now a blanket, wool pajamas, fur lined gloves so they will be here in time for next winter in case we are still here. Also send me clippings out of the paper that would be of interest to me such as local golf, baseball, and so forth. The part of Germany we are in is really pretty although we don't get to see much of it. I am attending German classes and hope to be able to speak it soon, or read the German newspapers which are the only ones we get. Give Ruth, Katrine & Carl, Granny, and everyone one all my love. Tell Jean I will write in 5 days when the airmail leaves. Let me know if any of my clothes from Africa have been sent home. I need a pair of green army pants also, size 33-31. Don't worry because I am fine and making the best of things. Johnny Jones also in good shape. Will write again in 3 weeks. All my love, Amon, Jr.
