Description
May 20, 1943, Dear Mother and Dad, I have an extra letter form this month so am writing again. I am getting along fine and have been doing a little work in order to get out camp during the day-time, such as working in a saw mill downtown and also tearing down a wooden house. It at least keeps me busy and makes the time pass quicker. I have also changed rooms here in the camp since about officers left to go and get artificial legs and arms, leaving some rooms vacant. There is one American here whom has already received letter from home so I should be getting some mail before long. There is a rumor we can't receive private food parcels from the states but no one knows whether its true or not. A lot of officers receive food parcels from Portugal so maybe you could make arrangements to have them sent from there, because food is what we need. Please send 100 Robert Bum again to Capt. JH Carter GEF. NO.187 Oflag IX AZ Germany. Take it from my money. He is a British officer and he's helped me a lot. I can also use some Mixture 79, pipe tobacco, toothpaste, hair oil, but no soap. Also see if you can send me magazines, but nothing you think will be censored. I hope everyone is getting along fine. Tell everyone hello for me and that I hope to see them soon. Give Ruth, Carl & Katrine, and jean my love. Don't forget to keep the letters coming because that is about all we look forward to. I will write again in 2 weeks so until then remember I am thinking of all of you. All my love, Amon JR
