Description
Dear Dad, Just got letter from you. Glad to hear that you even shot a bear on your big hunting operation in West Texas. Give the skin a good treatment so it will keep, as you will be questioned a lot by me when I get home. Some of the officers, captured in Sicily are from Texas and know lots of my friends. As I told you before, we and the British prisoners are receive lots of mail. You use to threaten to teach me poker, well in retaliation to poker playing, I am learning bridge. So far I can only induce John Jones, a friend from Jackson, Mississippi to help me but hope more will find-out that I have some ability. ******** my German instructor here, can play also, finding it very easy. When I get back home, don't be surprised because you can expect me to have become an expert player. More cigars arrived three days ago and believe me, they don't last long because all officers demand a few. Hope that you don't forget to find out if Emily and Aunt Loma are fine. I have received from Bertice in Dallas, also from jean, some very favorable letters. The young girls I enjoyed seeing in new your with the exception of one, Francis Moore, have gone to Florida, but I don't have their address. I have received 2 clothing and 2 cigar packages so far. I don't need any more clothes from now on just send cigars, food including powdered milk if possible. Also need Lt.Bars, US and Artillery insignia and another pipe Am getting alone fine. All my love, Amon JR
