Description
Oct 10, 1943, Dear Dad, Am getting along fine, seven more officers arrived from Italy and 38 more due. Four of these seven from Texas so you know what divison they are in. They had a pretty hard time in italy, Here are their names so mayve you can help their relatives by giving them the necessary information. Captain Joe K. Emerson , Itasca, Warrent Officer Roger Cannon 601 Novelty, Waco Capt. Newton W. Lantron, Box 751 Roger (wife) Lt. Dalton Medlen 104 Star Bonham, Texas (wife) Captain Emerson roomed with Lt. Tom Jennings coming over on the boat. As soon as the others arrived I will send their names. One of these officers said he saw an article in "life" about a Maj. Moore who got his men out of Mt. Lassouda in Africa. I was with him, only on top of the mountain, as artillery observer. I stayed from from Feb 14 to 20 and then started through the German lines. I walked about 55 miles right thru the German lines and was in sight of our own troops at kasserine Pass on the 23rd, when about 30 Arabs jumped on me and Private Truitt. They hurt him pretty badly, but didn't do too much dadamge to me, After binding us hand and feet they too us to the Germans. Only had cactus to eat in these 10 days. Will have to wait for rest. Love, Amon, Jr.
