Description
Miss Katrine Deakins Secretary to AG Carter My Dear Miss Deakins: I am enclosing a clip sent me by a relative who knew Amon Jr and Bruce were together, As Bruce had ived and talked with them, about the tie Lt. Piruire and Carter arrived at Knox, I want to thank you also for the mews paper sections as well. They were very interesting. I also saw Mr. Carter in Life! My brother wrote headquarters of She 91st FA and received a reply sometime ago. It recured to me that Mr. Carter might do as we do when we see and about Amon Jr. that is to think the boys probably near togehter. As least part of the time. this Y letter I shall quote in the past that may interest you = Amon's friend Bruce was surrounded at his location by the euceny and was unable to withdraw with our unit. No later learned from sergenat of another organization who had been with ihm, that he started to "walk out" about wtwo days later, obviously thorugh enemy territory. That is all we can tell you. In as so much as he did not get out. Each and everyone ..... Excellent Officer.... Further more, it will be of interest to you that even thouht surrounded by the enemy he calmly stayed t his post, giving us no information cornering enemy movements Mr. radio, thus rendering great aid to those who were fortunate enough to withdraw. No truly feel that he is alive and well.... unfortunately, individual verification is impossible. " We can give you the information since ... has already received the notification." I do not like to trust the letter. I may value it too highly. To me, it is a citation of bravery - through I daresay it'll date no ribbons. Though Amon Jr. was right there. Than as yet no direct new of Burce, I hope he is sound, and both of the boys will be discreet and LUCKY. Very truly yours, Jean Martin
