- 18 April 43 Mr. Amon Carter Ft. Worth, Texas. Dear Mr. Carter, your welcome telegram yesterday confirmed an item in a paper on Thursday that Amon had been reported a prisoner of the Germans. You can be assured of my great relief on reading your message and share with you happiness and thankfulness that nothing worse had befallen him. I think you can safely assume that he will be reasonable well treated as there are many German prisoners on whom I'll that men of our own can be enlisted. I hope an exchange of prisoners can be effected later that will see here and others restored to the American forces. Even though I am unable to do anything I wish I might be able to assist you in some way. Your many kindness to me and the other officers and especially to Mrs. Summerall are among the highest spots of the past year. If I can be of service in anyway please let me know.
