Description
Oklahoma City 4, Okla. Jan. 3, 1944. Mr. Amon G. Carter, Star Telegram, Ft. Worth, Texas. Dear Mr. Carter, I am writing you at the request of my son, Lt. John F. Shirk, who is a fellow with your son at Oflag 64, asking that I get from you all the particulars on sending packages. I do have the Got. Bulletins in regard to size, contests, etc. of the packs we may send, when proper labels are furnished. But I write, since he requested it, thinking perhaps since the 36th is a Texas Division primarily, and you as a Newspaper man, may have additional data or information not available to an Oklahoma mother or perhaps our sons felt there was a loud of interest between parents which might prove helpful. My letter from John is most impersonal, yet it was the best gift of the Christmas season. Naturally, our papers cover the 45th, so I hear very little of what the 36th has done. When the Salerno actions began, I went to newsstands and bought the Texas newspapers especially Sunday editions for I felt they might carry stories of what the mien were doing, I wish I were nearer to Temple, Texas that I might visit some of the returned from the front. There is so little on e can do, to show her personal concern and interest in those who are giving so much. If you have any information, which the Dept. has not covered in their impersonal bulletins, I shall consider it a true forever if I may hear from you. most sincerely, Mrs. Carrie N Shirk 626 N.E. 16th St.
