Description
Feb. 9, 1945 Dear Mr. Carter: I received a card yesterday from Amon Jr written on Dec 20th and I though t you might like to know that I have heard from him. From the tone of his letters, he seems to be in very good spirits. He also mentioned that he had sent you some pictures of the gang, and that you might send me a lot of them. I would be more than glad to have a set of these pictures. Maybe before long now Germany will be defeated and on boys who are prisoners will be freed. It will really be a happy day when we can see them again. I talked with Mrs. McPhethers a few days ago and she brought me up to date on a lot of the boys in the 91st FA who had been rotated, captured, killed etc. Col McPheteres took command of the 91st FA right after Amon was captured. he was later killed and Anzio in sorry of a fresh mishap. Since my last letter to you, I have acquired a wife and have been retired from the service. My wife was a Red Cross worker at Winter General Hosp. Do to my disability I was declared unfit for active military service, so we have come back to Indianapolis to make our home. I am giving my Dad a helping hand with the Drug Store. I would appreciate hearing from you soon, and undoubtedly you have more news about Amon. If you can send the pictures he mentioned, I would like to have them. Here's hoping Amon will be back soon. Yours, Jim Simmons.
