- Description
- Oct, 14, 1943. Dear Amon: The proper way to write my son, Lee, si to address an envelope with 5c postage to Capt Lee S. Thomas assistant military attache, US Legation Lisbon, Protugal, and reenclass it another envelope with 3c postage addressed to him, G2 mailroom Penatgon Bldg, Alexandrai VA They open the outer envelope put the inner one in the diplomatic pouch, and he gets it in 10 to 15 days. I just got one from him in 13 days elasped time. Christams packages - as they told me a year ago when I was in Washington, do not need double wrapping postage, but only need to be addressed to him, to G2 mail room, Pentagon Bldg Alexandria and If not more than 10 inches in length width or dept would be put in the diplomatic pouch without cenrsoing examination, or duty payment or declaration. That is the theory, but Christams gifts I maile din Washington last remember did not reach Lee until Feb 26th . I guess it did not make the Diplomatic Pouch as promised becaused of the growth of business due to the invasion of north africa. If I were to undertake the problem of getting a package from Amon Jr in GermanykI would write or phone Col. Rodrigo and ask him if he gets though Lee (whom he like and reccommened promplty for promotion) could be of assistance, and exactly how best to use him. Sincerely, Tommy Sorry I cannot type this our for you. Perhaps your secretary can decipher it!
