Description
Dear Mr. Carter: It was indeed wonderful to hear of Sidney first hand from you today, and I truly appreciate your many kindnesses to him during your stay in London. He remarked in all his letters home of how much you helped him there. And you were so kind to us, for we didn't know where Sidney was until your secretary gave us the information. Their present status seems all right. Sidney finds it very interesting, making use of his Spanish, getting fresh eggs, tangerines, and oranges. The "vino" is especially good - also the cognac. He asked me to let you know that your son is fine. I've sent Sidney some vitamins called Gel-multicebrin, to take only 1 a day. They're made by Lilly. Tomorrow I'm sending him some canned fruits, cheese, cheese popcorn. (sorry I can't send him the beef to go with it). They're on emergency rations, having hot meals, the, and he's not complaining. Sidney described the birthday dinner being prepared for Gen. McQuillins 55th birthday. A cake was to be prepared if an oven could be found in which to bake it. One of the boys contributed a new tie for the gift. And it would be a special occasion, for one of Sidney's old pals rejoined them. Thank you for mailing the letter to us; it was very informative, and thank you again for helping Sidney through some very trying days. I hope some time soon to come to Ft. Worth and see you personally. Sincerely, Jane Wiedermann
