Description
January 20, 1943 Dear Mr. Carter: It's not easy to write a thank you letter to one who is as magnanimous as you are, and I'm grateful to you for so many things, mostly, for your friendliness to Sidney. I can't express myself adequately to tell you how much your many kindnesses to him during those trying days in London mean to me. And secondly, allowing me to come to Ft. Worth to talk to you, to know you, hearing you say fine thoughts to Sidney was indeed a privilege. You taking time to tell of your trip, your acquaintances, showing us your many interesting letters and photographs, giving us so much of your valuable time, the liquor to be saved for Sidney, the lovely pen which I shall always treasure - all these things are just a part of all I appreciated. You're everything Sidney said you are, and I'm proud to have been with you. Bertice, Amon, Jr., and Ruth have a wonderful Dad. Mail delivery has been very good. Today I had two letters from Sidney written the 10th & 11th, saying he's been living in a hotel for a few days, sleeping in a real bed with sheets! That's a happy occasion. He speaks of talking with Ben Oliver and Ward, so I gather the two combat teams are back together again. Thank you again for everything. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope we'll always continue to hear good news from our boys. Sincerely, Jane Wiedermann
