Description
Monday Dear Mr. Carter: Your copy of the menu came, and I shall always treasure it - am saving it for Sidney, for he, too, will appreciate your thoughtfulness. The telegram you sent to Amon, Jr. last year is a masterpiece - a fine message from a father to his son - and I've copied it to send to Sidney, for it will be an inspiration to him. I referred to the writer as Amon, for names shouldn't be mentioned now, and I omitted the part about the bounties. I wanted Sidney to know who wrote the message and to whom. For each day I know you more, I am more cognizant of the fine, deep qualities you possess - an inspiration to your son and to anyone with whom you come in contact. We received a letter today, written January 13th in which Sidney says they're ready, and I think they're likely in it by now. Today I also received a letter from one of our friends who was with the first group in November and who was in the first battle around Tunis. From his description of their valiant fight, I know that with the entire division strength, our boys can really accomplish their purpose quickly. They've had excellent training and with their American spirit within them, they'll come through all right. I shall keep you posted when I learn of any further developments. Sincerely, Jane Wiedermann
