Description
Eagle Lake Tex - May-16-1945. My Dear Mr. Carter: I am Mrs. G. W. Vallentine's sister. She is the lady who you so kindly wrote about her son, at the time he was sent to Oflag 64 with your so, Lt John T. Vallentine. We feel sure you must have found out something about him when you saw your son in Germany. The suspense is about to drive my sister crazy. Won't you please let us hear from you - if you know that he is dead. It wont hurt us any more to hear it from you than through the Government. I believe if you had seen him or if you know he was well & all right you would have wired her right away because you have been so nice to her in the past. So if you feel that you can't tell his mother please drop me a few lines & tell me if you know anything at all about him. The last we have heard from him was a letter written on Dec 27. Thats a mighty long time to wait - and since we know that so many have died of starvation & others have frozen we are afraid that he is one of the many. I am so happy for you, that your son will get home safely. I saw in last nights Houston Chronicle where he is in Paris now. I hope you can understand the way we feel & I'm sure you can. Very truly yours Mrs. S. S. White Eagle Lake Tex.
