- Sunday nite Dear Mrs. Deakins: You probably thought it strange I talked to Mable yesterday, but we were leaving for Kansas City, and I wanted you to know the news we'd heard. Sidney called me from the (???) to tell me that Col. Van Vliet had a letter of Dec. 13th from his son in Oflag 64, captured at the same time as Amon, Jr. and that Red Cross packages were received again, and Sidney asked me to call you. You might have heard direct from Amon, Jr., but I feel that it was important to call in case you hadn't. Hope you have mail. The news is so encouraging - if the Reds can just keep it up! I'm really getting hopeful again, and I'm praying every nite as always - for Amon, Jr.'s health & safe return - Lovingly, Jane
