Description
Aug. 9-1935- Dear Mr. Carter: This to tell you my great appreciation of your "phone" assurance that "one of these four mornings" - (or evenings) you would be (?) get in touch with Will Rogers, while he is your guest. As I said on phone - I'd like to help on his being President - of U.S. as he has more qualifications for the "job" than anyone since Grover Cleveland. This is no feeble joke, but a quite serious conclusion from one who has been in public service almost 50 years. "Horse sense" is nearly about in Governmental affairs and "common honesty" rare. Would to God we could elect a grand soul like Will, to the Presidency. Cordially yours - John B. Hawley. {Amon G. Carter. Ft. Worth - Texas}
