Description
Oct 15 1935 Mr Amon Carter, Fort Worth Star and Telegram Fort Worth, Texas. Dear Mr. Carter: About a week ago I mailed you a copy of my song "He'll Be There." I hope it has met with your approval as it has done so everywhere I have shown it so far. Quoting Ruth McPheron, musical director, radio station W.A.G.U. of Columbus, Ohio. " "He'll Be There" will be a big success. It has good melody and the lyrics are far above average." This and other similar statements from critics who should be in a position to judge, lead me to hope that my humble effort may do much to make the loving memory of Will Rogers more vivid, more sacred, to the generations to come, who will not have a Will Rogers in their "Midst," as you and I know there will never be another like him. Mr Carter I doubt if it was good business judgement to publish this song as I have done, but I have done so at the sugestion of friends here and critics in Kansas City, Mo. to whom I had shown my manuscript, in order that all who wish to do so may enjoy singing it or hearing it sung as we have done. I work for a salary of $45.00 per month and have borrowed part of the money for this venture in the expectation of selling enough copies to at least break even. You and your associates can do much to help by requesting it sung over your favorite radio station. If you desire more copies I will be glad to mail you some gratio. I sell them as follows, single copies 35 (cents) - 5 copies or more 20 (cents) each. I will suply any dealer on consignment at 20 (cents) each. Dealers sell at 35 (cents) and remit when sold. I am making every effort to market it through the larger sheet music jobbers. I trust you will find it possible to do some little thing to assist me in the distribution of this song. Please let me hear from you, your candid opinion of the song, (no flatter please,) With best wishes, Roy R. Rogers.
