Description
Amon dear: The happy thought just came to me that the Will Rogers Ranch might be a nice place as a convalescent and rest place for officers of aviation. It is so delightful there the year round, and the spacious grounds - Tennis court and little 4 hole golf course and polo field makes an ideal place for relaxation for men who have been under a great strains. Polo clubs are near & games could be staged for the boys amusement as well as rodeo and all out door sports. My idea was to offer it for the duration to the Government free (one dollar per year I believe is the way they do those things) but any way you would know and I want you to advise me. The Ranch as present is open to the public as a Museum, the funds going to the Beverly Hills Red Cross but wishing would please dear Will so much as to know that the place he built and the acres he loved are being used to keep the aviation of the Navy, the Marines and the army. There is a sentiment about the peace that I believe would be conducive for a given recovery. Col Lindberg visited us at the Ranch and knows the peace well. C R Smith too knows the ranch - If you think adviseable I will write for their opinion - In the mean time if you think there is merit to the idea I wish you would let me know, as I couldn't possible do anything (?) it without your help. We think of you often, and I hope you will be coming out our way before very long Love from Mary and yours Betty April 16th
