- Photo of a Lockheed Vega airplane. On reverse: This is the Lockheed Vega of the type which the low bidder on the Fort Worth-Chicago line has certified to the Post Office Department for service on the route to replace the Boeing multi-motored transports formerly operated by United Air Lines, which flew the mail out of Fort Worth for eight years prior to cancellation and rebidding. This plane can carry no passengers on the night flight, due to a Department of Commerce stipulation against transporting of passengers in single-engined planes at night on this route. The plane has only one engine and is flown by one pilot. It has a wing span of fifty-three feet. The mail is carried in a compartment built into what was formerly the passenger cabin. This plane's schedule is one and one-half hours longer from Fort Worth to Chicago than the schedule formerly in effect with United Air Lines' multi-motored transports. The plane does not carry two-way radio."
