Description
Photo of Amon Carter at a podium. On reverse: "This picture was made at the time of the inaugural flight of the Texas Air Transport plane from Fort Worth south to Laredo. Two planes left here at the same time, one to Laredo and the other to Galveston. This was the first air mail flight south from Fort Worth. At that time there was only one other air mail route, it being NAT to Chicago, Contract Air Mail Route No. 3. The ship is a Pitcairn, single motor biplane, which first used to carry the mail south. Bill Fuller holding the left wing, and Earl Rockwood, formerly with National Air Transport, holding the right wing. L. S. Andrews and Tom Harding and Hugh Brewster piloted first ships. The ceremony was attended by about 5,000 people. February 6, 1928, Fort Worth, Texas."
